Isabelle's Travel Tips, Summer Special -- Why I like summer...
August 10, 2009

Welcome to the SUMMER EDITION of Isabelle's Travel Tips!

This edition of my newsletter is going to be a bit different. Because I had a trip in July to the USA (you can read about it in my travel journal), I decided to write a bit more about why I like summer so much!

20 reasons of 'Why I like the summer?'

1. The summer is nice and warm. I love being able to walk around in cute summer clothes (dresses, shorts,...).

2. In the evenings it’s warm enough to sit down with a glass of wine.

3. The sun peaking through your window in the morning and in the evenings overlooking beautiful sunsets.

Sunset

4. Drinking cocktails on a terrace with friends. (There was a great recipe of one in my first newsletter!)

5. Going for a swim in the ocean.

6. Reading a good book on the beach under an umbrella.

7. Watching dolphins swim by.

8. The smiles on children’s faces when they can play water games!

9. Eating ice cream.

10. Having BBQs.

11. Walking barefoot or on flip-flops.

12. The smell of flowers and fresh cut grass.

13. Lots of choice in fresh fruit you can eat and don’t forget the smoothies ... mmhhh!

14. People are so much happier. I see more smiles :)

15. Lots of organized activities, like festivals, celebrations (4th of July),...

16. Being outdoors all the time!

17. The day just seems so much longer…

18. Relaxing in a hammock.

19. Building sandcastles and finding seashells.

20. And of course the many vacation trips you can make!!! Trips to the beach to relax or to the mountains to keep cool ;-)

Some tips for the summer season

How to keep it cool?

Go look for the best ice cream! I found a spot at the beach, called Maureen’s and loved there chocolate-marshmallow flavour!

Best places to visit in the summer:

A good alternative for Islands, where there’s always a beach nearby where you can relax, cool down with a dip in the ocean, ... Or the mountains, because it’s cooler up there, is visiting places where the seasons are reversed! If you’re from Europe or USA, go Down Under and visit the Aussies! Or New Zealand, beautiful scenery there (See the amazing views from my hotel room, when staying there in hotel number 3)

Entertaining the kids while driving to your destination

If you're driving some where, here are some ideas for in the car.
Game 1: Number plate game: when you see a car passing by, read the first letter and make a word with that letter.
Game 2: Guessing: You have an animal in your thoughts and the kids have to guess which one it is, by asking questions!
Game 3: 'I'm going on a vacation and I take with me...' The second player has to repeat the first item and add another one. And so on...
Have fun on the road!
