Long Island is more than just beaches. Don`t get me wrong I love beaches, that`s why I invented #BeachThursday on Twitter 😉 I think it was more that I was surprised about it.
Of course I checked out the beaches first, on each side of the island. In the south, you find sandy beaches and in the north you`ll find pebbles and rocks.

What else is there to see or do in Long Island?
First of all, Long Island is very close to Manhattan. I was only an hour drive away from NYC. Definitely go into the city when you`re visiting Long Island. Or vice versa, when you`re visiting the city, why not make a day trip to Long Island.
What I didn`t know about Long Island was that it has a lot of vineyards and is even known for their wine tastings. On our way to Orient Point, we stopped at some places to taste a few wines. And we weren`t the only ones!
How does it work?
You just pay a small amount, in our case it was 5 dollars to taste 3 different wines. They either have a bar or a place with tables and chairs, kind of like a little café. You can ask questions, sit back and relax.
There are lots of wineries where you can taste wine. It`s a fun way to see a bit more of Long Island and it`s vineyards.

I actually went to school in Long Island and live in NYC and I still have not been to the Long Island wineries. Adding that to my list of things to do in the spring!
I know how that goes, I usually need a friend or relative from abroad to come over and see everything fun there`s around in the neighborhood! It`s definitely nice for a day trip or weekend away 🙂
