My experience with trains was just commuting on them to get around. And I`ve been on a night train to Germany once, the word “claustrophobic” comes to mind! So, when they told me we were going on a luxury train on the Asturias trip, my curiosity was sparked. What would it be like? Would the beds be only just wide enough to sleep in and when you turn around you hit the floor?
Well, I can tell you this, El Transcantabrico exceeded my expectations!
When we arrived we were welcomed by the staff members in their smart uniform and with a big smile.
All aboard!! Choo-choo!!
I started to explore the train and was I in for a surprise. The suites (yes, not just rooms, but suites!) all had a number with a corresponding name: Ambassador, Princess and President. And I was the proud owner for 1 night of a President suite. Yay!
It`s amazing how they designed these suites. There was a comfortable double bed, a seating area, fully equipped bathroom with a shower with a dozen buttons to have your own spa session on board. And last but not least, a desk with a fabulous view on the Asturian scenery. I could have gotten used to writing at that table while the beauty of Spain passes me by.
After being in total ‘Awww’ by my suite, it was time to find out what else you can find on a luxury train. Guess what: lots! A lounge room, to hang out, a dining room, kitchen and even a Disco Bar.
And the facilities aren`t the only highlights on this luxury train, we were treated to a delicious lunch.
I can only say I truly enjoyed this train experience and was sad it was only for 1 night. I would recommend this train trip as a romantic couple`s trip, or for travelers who want to enjoy luxury and see different places at the same time. Reminds me a bit of cruising, with the advantage of only having to unpack once and having your hotel with you along your trip while exploring different destinations.
I was invited on this trip by Asturian Tourist Board. However the opinions of this post are my own.
