6 Simple Packing Tips

By Isabelle 3 Comments

Are you like me, leaving packing to the last minute? Even though there`s no manual for all trips as they differ usually from beach holiday to city trip, here are a few simple tips to make your packing easier.

Suitcases: Simple Packing Tips

1. Do some research

First job, what`s the weather going to be like. Are you going in the Summer or Winter? What are the average temperatures like? If you`re heading to New York in the Winter, your suitcase is going to look different from when you`re packing for a Summer city break.

2.What are your main activities going to be?

Are you going for an adventurous trip where you`ll go climbing, taking part in water activities or are you going for a relaxing beach holiday. Do you have some night`s out planned? Are there formal events taking place? This is an important question to ask yourself as this will decide if you`ll have more sportswear in there than fashionable outfits.

3. Basics are key

If there`s one thing I`ve learned during my travels than it`s that you should pick some basic items with colors that work well together. For example blue, black, beige are easy colors to combine or to spice up with a brighter color.

4. Shoes

In my opinion the most difficult of all. Again the question raises, what are you doing? But overall you should be okay when you pack a pair of heels (for that unplanned night out), a pair of casual sneakers (That can serve as a walking shoe, unless you`re going hiking. Make sure you pack a decent pair of hiking shoes, as you`ll regret it otherwise). I always pack a pair of flip-flops as they come in handy anytime (even as slippers inside) and my Tieks which I can combine casual or to brighten up my outfit as they`re cobalt blue.

5. Layers

Layers are always a good idea because even if you check the weather forecast before you leave, you know they can be wrong sometimes and you`ll regret not having a cardigan with you when all of a sudden the temperature drops.

6. Accessorize

The most important if you want to travel light, accessories can make your outfit you`ve been wearing one day look completely different the other day by just changing a few things. Not to mention spice up your basics to dress up or add some color. I always pack a scarf, so versatile.

These are just a few simple packing tips to make sure you pack right and light. For more help, check out my checklists.

I would say it’s a good list but NEVER PACK HEELS. They take up soooo much room and only kill your feet after a long day walking already. Maybe a pair of comfortable but stylish flats would be better.

Hi George, thanks for stopping by. You`re right, it`s not the most comfortable after a whole day of walking if that`s the case during your trip. For a night out or formal event they still come in handy IF you know you`ll have one of those. I also pack stylish flats that are comfortable, but they don`t give the wow-effect like a heel does 🙂 But trust me, if it comes down to space and I have to pick, I`ll go for the stylish flat too.
